I take on extensions of all shapes and sizes, and with 4 daughters, and a pet dog, Mr & Mrs Shiel needed something with space! Its over two years since I first met Mr & Mrs Shiel, and began working on a design to extend their home in Portishead, and I went back to meet them today to see their finished extension.
The house was a detached property, with a detached double garage, and a pretty and mature garden to the rear.
We came up with a scheme which involved creating an additional 80% floorspace, without losing any usable garden space. Building part single, part double storey extension to the side, bridging the gap between the house and the detached garage, and building over the detached garage had its challenges, but has resulted in a considerably larger, L-shaped home, keeping the garden, driveway and double garage facility in tact.
The house now boasts 4 double bedrooms, and a large master bedroom suite, a master bathroom, 3 en suites, a dressing room, a comfortable and airy entrance and upstairs landing area, a large kitchen/diner and adjoining utility, living room, downstairs WC, a study and a TV/cinema room/guest bedroom and shower room, along with a double garage. With 4 children approaching their teenage years this is exactly what the family needed!
