Kitchen extension, Bath

This Victorian end of terrace property in Bathwick, Bath, had been extended by previous owners. The current owners found the extension cold and the layout was not as practical as it could be. A sizeable side return left empty and unused space, but an agreement was in place with the adjacent property which would allow the owners to attach onto a wall on the party line, mirroring the extension of their neighbours. ACHD designed this gable ended single storey extension and worked with a structural engineer to open up the internal spaces, creating a large kitchen, dining and family space.

Large bifolds overlooking the extensive garden, along with roof lights in the gable and into the new side return, provide light throughout.

The existing dining room has been incorporated into the space, and the step up into this space was retained, helping to ‘zone’ the spaces.

A small wet room style shower and WC has been added, under the existing stair, a really valuable addition to a family home.
